Sanitary Wear InfoReusable Sanitary Pads
We recommend rinsing pads with cold water and storing in a tub of cold salty water until you wash them. This helps to prevent staining. We recommend washing no hotter than 40 degrees. Do not use fabric softener as this will reduce the absorbency of the pads. They can be washed with your usual washing (wash with similar colours) but please take care if washing with velcro/aplix as this can damage pads. Pads can be tumble dried on a low heat setting. Whilst it is claimed that using reusable pads can reduce the occurrence of thrush, if you do suffer from thrush we recommend you iron your pads. Mooncup The Mooncup is a reusable menstrual cup made from medical grade silicone and is Latex-free. Each Mooncup comes with a bag and an instruction leaflet, detailing how to insert & remove the mooncup and how to clean it. Mooncups are designed to be comfortable and convenient. They can be used while travelling, swimming, doing exercise and can be worn overnight. The Mooncup does not absorb, it collects your menstrual blood, meaning it does not cause dryness. Jam Sponge The Jam Sponge is a natural (unbleached and undyed) sea sponge, picked by divers in the Mediterranean Sea who leave the root so that the sponge can regenerate. Jam Sponges come in a set containing 2 sponges, one smaller than the other, a bag, full instructions and a badge for you to wear! To use it you simply insert it with your fingers and similarly to take it out. With care a Jam Sponge can last for a year. FAQ 1) Isn't is a bit yucky?!? Well firstly I'd say periods are a bit yucky anyway! I can't comment on anyone else's experiences but I've always found tampons rather yucky. In fact I gave up on them years ago because they were too uncomfortable and found they often leaked. Once you start using reusable menstrual products you'll find it's actually not that yucky at all. 2) What do I do when I'm out and about? If you're using the Mooncup there's a couple of options. You can take a small bottle of water into the toilet cubicle to rinse the Mooncup, you could just wipe it with toilet paper or just empty it and reinsert. For Jam Sponges you can either take the sponge out, rinse it under a tap and reinsert OR take out the used one, pop it in the bag and insert another. If you're using cloth pads then waterproof bags to carry the used ones in are available. 3) Is the Mooncup difficult to use? It can take a little practice to get it right but once you are used to it you will find it very simple to use. The best time to practice is in the last couple of days of your period. Once the Mooncup is positioned correctly you will not be able to feel it. The Mooncup has a stem which needs to be trimmed to the correct length for you. We recommend you take a bit of time to get this right. 4) Can the Mooncup or Jam Sponge get lost/stuck? No, they can't get lost!!! You may find when you are getting used to the Mooncup or Jam Sponge that you have difficulty removing it. This is generally down to feeling anxious about it. The easiest way to solve this problem is to try to relax, squat down and push down with your pelvic floor muscles as if giving birth! This will push the Jam Sponge/Mooncup lower, do this until you can grab it. You can tie a bit of dental floss to the Jam Sponge for extra reassurance.
